Laboratory of Plant Nutrition was opened by the late Dr. Akira Tanaka in 1967. The late Toshiaki Tadano, Junichi Yamaguchi, Mitsuru Osaki were subsequent professors after Dr. Tanaka. Since 2019, Dr. Takuro Shinano become as a Professor. The laboratory staffs are Dr. Toshihiro Watanabe as Associate Professor and Dr. Hayato Maruyama as Assistant Professor.

The Laboratory of Plant Nutrition consistently working on to improve the crop productivity not only in Japan but also in many adverse environmental conditioned field in the world. Such as contributing the development of IR8 by Dr. Tanaka. The most recent research area is to remediate the radioactive contamination of food after Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in 2011.
